Trim Sailing

Once in a lifetime adventure, aboard a one of a kind vessel. Sharing decades of experience that turn sailing dreams into reality.

Who we are

We are Alex and Agata, sailors and partners in every sense.

We're circumnavigating and living aboard Trim, the boat we met on and later restored ourselves. Between us, we share decades of experience at sea, hosting in-person sailing expeditions and helping others make the leap to a life at sea through personalised consultations.

The crew

Alex Gray

Lifelong sailor and senior shipwright

Alex spent a lifetime on the water, starting with sailing the Queensland coast with his Dad from the age of four. Since then, he has sailed over 45,000 nautical miles, crossing oceans both with crew and solo, from Europe and Africa to the most remote corners of the South Pacific. The safety of the vessel and crew is always at the forefront of his mind.
In addition to being a skilled sailor, Alex is an experienced shipwright with nearly a decade of expertise in marine carpentry, mechanical and electrical yacht systems.

Agata Gray

Software designer, sailor, ex-architect

An architect turned live-aboard sailor and a remote-working designer. Before meeting Alex, Agata had no prior sailing experience. Her first overnight sail was an Atlantic Ocean crossing aboard Trim. She learned everything the hands-on way: observing Alex, working on Trim’s restoration, living aboard, and working remotely from her laptop at sea. Obsessed with water, she is an avid swimmer, scuba diver, and freediver.
Agata has first-hand insight into what it’s like to dive headfirst into sailing life as a complete novice.

The boat

We live and sail aboard Trim, our 50ft blue-water cruiser, built for long voyages, comfort, and safety.

Trim is a Del Rey 50, designed by William Crealock and built in California in 1980. Only a handful of this model were ever built, and no two Del Reys are the same. Restored by us between 2018–2021, Trim now balances classic lines with a bright, open interior and all-new systems.

Built for life at sea Trim can comfortably sleep 6-8 people with two dinghies, two heads, two hot water showers (inside and outside), house-like electric galley and plenty of leisure area on the deck. We occasionally offer a chance to join us aboard Trim. Information on 2026-2027 dates coming soon.

Restoration of Trim

Over 3+ years, just the two us, we replaced everything but the hull.

Same boat, new soul. After years of full time work we made Trim the classic vessel with a modern twist it is today. See the progress captured in photos between 2018–2025.

The voyage so far

Our story started in 2017 when Alex set sail on a westward aboard a 50ft boat he had just bought: Trim.

After buying Trim in Turkey he sailed with crew through the Mediterranean and onward to the Canary Islands, where we eventually met. From there, Agata joined him for the Atlantic crossing. After 14 days at sea and a successful landfall in Guadeloupe, we continued north through the Caribbean toward the U.S. to start a new project.
In Virginia, living in a camper beside the boat, we dedicated ourselves fully to Trim’s restoration. Over three years of full-time work, we replaced everything but the hull.

In 2021, we were forced to leave Trim in the U.S. Alex later returned to retrieve the boat and resume the westward voyage toward Australia. Including a solo, months-long Pacific crossing in 2023. A crossing few attempt alone.
Now Trim is ready once again, and so are we. We’re soon back on our westward journey from Sydney toward Europe, completing the full circle around the globe.

  • " Alex stands out as one of the most well prepared and experienced."

I have crewed with Alex through the Whitsundays, he is extremely capable! I have owned my own yacht and sailed with many people since - but Alex stands out as one of the most well prepared and experienced. He is a genius at troubleshooting. I would absolutely trust him to skipper a yacht anywhere.

Kahlee Andrews (Managing Director at Devote Digital, ex-Adreno)

  • "Both of their "Can Do" attitudes were so refreshing."

"I met Alex and Agata in 2019 while we were refitting our 62 Whiticar in Deltaville, Virginia. They were a tremendous help to us in completing our project. Alex’s extensive knowledge of all boat systems, his carpentry skills and both of their "Can Do" attitudes were so refreshing. I would not hesitate to engage them again."

Scott Carter (ex Texas General Land Office)

  • "I would not hesitate to join Alex on another adventure!"

"I have sailed offshore with Alex in both Australia and Europe and could not recommend his skills and knowledge more highly. I would not hesitate to join him on another adventure!"
