Our story

Agata and Alex are currently sailing from Australia to Europe aboard Trim, a 50ft sailboat they rebuilt from the hull up.

Agata and Alex met in the Canary Islands during Alex’s voyage aboard Trim to the USA. An ex-architect and designer paired with a shipwright and lifelong offshore skipper, after a few days on the water they set out on an Atlantic crossing — Agata’s first overnight passage.

What followed was the extensive restoration of their 50ft sailboat, Trim, in Virginia, years of hands-on work, and a 2020–21 lockdown-defying effort that ultimately saw Alex sail Trim single-handedly to Australia.

Trim Sailing was born from that journey, built on craftsmanship, resilience, and a commitment to living life to the fullest. Today, they are completing their circumnavigation while sharing knowledge gained over years of personal and professional experience.

Current route: Australia → South Africa → Europe
Already completed: Turkey → USA → Australia

Featured collaborations

Over the years, we've worked with brands that have supported the project both in the yard and on the water.

Past collaborations have ranged from marine coatings, through marine solar solutions, to dive gear. Every featured product is one we've genuinely used and loved — under sail, underwater, or in the boatyard.

Adreno × Trim Sailing - In 2019, Adreno sponsored gear for our dive expedition to Lord Howe Island — one of the world’s most pristine marine environments. Dive gear was photographed in action by Nick Jaffee (founder of Kohutt) in collaboration with Alex.

Kirby's Paint - During Trim's refit, Kirby's Paint supplied us with marine coatings and merchandise in exchange for photography and social media coverage documenting the restoration.

Our backgrounds

Alex Gray

Lifelong sailor and senior shipwright

Alex started life on the water at just four years old. Since then, he has logged over 45,000 nm as a skipper across the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. With over a decade as a shipwright, he specialises in marine carpentry and yacht systems, working on vessels from blue water cruisers to Sydney to Hobart racing yachts.

Agata Gray

Software designer, sailor, ex-architect

Agata began sailing with no prior experience. Her first overnight passage was an Atlantic Ocean crossing aboard Trim. She learned through hands-on experience sailing, restoring Trim, and working remotely at sea, eventually landing a role at Canva. She makes sailing approachable through clear, digestible content on Trim Sailing.
